John Phifer Marrs

Thursday, June 11, 2015 |

John Marrs is one of the premier interior designers in the South and is known for an elegant, fresh and inviting style that many call “The New Southern Style”. His interiors reflect his southern roots and combine a sense of the past with comfort and convenience.

His education includes post-graduate studies in the U.S. as well as in the European Program at the Parsons School of Design in both Paris and Rome. He is an accredited interior designer, having successfully completed the NCIDQ Examination and is a registered interior designer in the state of Texas.

John’s many leadership roles include past Texas Chapter President of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) and past Chairman of the ASID Dallas Association. He has participated in numerous Dallas Charity Show houses and has served as the co-chairman of the Beaux Arts’ Decorative Arts Auction for the Dallas Museum of Art. Funny, irreverent…with a “Saturday Night Live” sense of humor…John has been very busy entertaining his clients and creating magical interiors in Texas and throughout the United States. His projects include major residences, vacation homes, executive offices and even the official residence of a United States Ambassador.

His work has been regularly featured in local and national publications including “Texas Home and Living”, “Better Homes and Gardens”, “Southern Accents”, “Traditional Home” and the venerable “Architectural Digest”. In his namesake Dallas shop, John offers an assortment of antique American furniture, contemporary artwork, 19th century porcelain, tabletop accessories and custom lighting. The location also houses his design studio and support staff. A frequent guest lecturer, blogger for DHome magazine, traveler and collector, John’s own homes in Dallas and Eureka Springs were featured in the recently published book “Designers Here and There – Inside the City and Country Homes of America’s Top Decorators.”

This seamless blending of multiple interests allows Denise to offer her affluent clients access to Dallas' best-kept secret: her black book of high-end concierge services.

Denise has a loyal following for her "Designed with a Deadline" blog. Denise offers a range of services catering to full service interior design, as well as, her ever popular Designed in a Day service.

Denise McGaha’s Vignette Inspiration

Denise was excited to collaborate with Pettigrew to design her bedroom vignette. The ever popular Chang Mai Dragon fabric featured on the custom bed was the springboard for her colorful vision of chartreuse, lilac, and navy. An unlikely mixture of colors is grounded by neutral bed linens, an Asian-inspired dressing table, and accent chairs. Denise has added her signature spin of traditional forms in a modern way to create this fun, vibrant vignette.

Charlotte Comer

Award-winning interior designer Charlotte Comer has an eye for the unusual. She favors a monochromatic palette, juxtaposing design periods, textures and fabrics for the quintessential eclectic look. Charlotte adds punches of color and found objects for drama. She has designed furniture, fabrics, rugs and commercial spaces, but her first love is collaborating with individual clients to make their house a home. Charlotte works closely with clients, putting their needs first in her design schemes. She has the exceptional ability of visualizing each project three dimensionally before discussing what it will look like and – just as important – what it will feel like. Charlotte’s inspiration comes from her life experiences and the talented artisans she partners with. Her docent work at the Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth revolutionized her design style.

Charlotte received her design degree from Texas Christian University. Her work has been featured in numerous home furnishings books and in national news and trade media. She has been honored as one of D Home magazine’s Best Designers in Dallas for nine years.

Charlotte Comer’s inspiration for this vignette…

Charlotte is renowned for creating extraordinarily eclectic interiors, but this time Pettigrew offered her the opportunity to take the unusual to new heights. She jumped at the chance, and immediately was inspired by Pettigrew – of course! They generously offered her an abundance of options to work with – everything from French settees to lighting fixtures – so she let her mind soar…knowing that Pettigrew would customize each piece to her specifications.  Charlotte’s talented vendors also played a big role in the vignette’s design. She kindled this talented group’s creativity and likewise, they kindled hers, for an out-of-this-world transitional space that’s awash in artful decorative effects.
